Pansies are such happy little flowers and tolerate some really nasty weather.
I plant violas because they last longer into the spring when it gets really humid and hot here. Pansies are easier to find as plants, so seed starting is a good practice, early on. I'm behind this year.
Thanks for your great advise. You know, I rarely expect them materialize let alone stay in the garden for any length of time because of our really hot weather. It's been unusually cold over the past month or so and they seem to love it (thankfully)! After a couple of days of 80+ degree weather, I expected to come out into the garden and find them withered away. They're still there...phew.
Think I will try planting them a bit earlier to see how well they last. And love violas but admittedly, haven't planted them nearly as often as the pansies. Think I'll plant some in a couple of weeks to see if they are a bit hardier than the pansies.
